Life
Life can be happy,
And life can be sad.
When life isn’t crappy
Life definitely isn’t bad.
People laugh and smile
When life is great
But they frown while
Life makes them irate.
It sends many struggles
But has many rewards
These both must be juggled
If they want to move toward
Happiness in life
But when juggling is impossible
Life is full of strife
And juggling becoming possible
Becomes so much harder
But the goal is still in reach
Happiness in life is not up for barter
But a difficult barrier that must be breached
Happiness must be earned
Not just given to them
Earned through tough times where we learned
What it’s like to be condemned
But through this is happiness in life.
I believe that this imitates William Blake’s style because the poems by him that I read talked about life. He writes more of the aspects of life. I read one on love and the night. These both involved essence of life itself. Also, in one of poems I read it had an abab rhyme scheme for the most part. I in turn followed an abab rhyme scheme.

Hi Pat,
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your poem. Your insight into the challenging nature of balancing the many responsibilities, tasks, and deadlines that come along with life was well articulated. Were you imitating any particular Blake poem? You might also have mentioned how your poem is similar in tone/content/theme to poems written during the Romantic era. Good job.
